OSSÉ AND LOUIS TO REPRESENT CANADA AT BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AMERICAS

Feb 06, 2023

Two 2022 Alliance players, co-captain and first player in franchise history Kemy Ossé and Alain Louis, will compete in the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) with the defending Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) champions, the Brampton Honey Badgers.

Founded in 2019, the BCLA is the first-ever Pan American competition and replaced the FIBA Americas League as the continent’s highest tier league in the continent. The competition pits the best basketball teams in the Americas against each other, such as the three best teams of the Liga Nacional de
Básquet (Argentina – Quimsa, Instituto ACC, Obras), the three best teams of the Novo Basquete Brasil (Brazil – Minas Tênis Clube, Flamengo, Franca), the CEBL champions (Canada – Brampton Honey Badgers), the champion of the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol de Chile (Chile – C.D. Universidad de Concepción), the champion of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (Mexico – Libertadores de Querétaro), the champion of the Liga Superior de Baloncesto (Nicaragua – Real Estelí) as well as the two best teams of the Liga Uruguaya de Basketball (Uruguay - Biguá de Villa Biarritz, Peñarol).

The 12 teams in the competition are divided into four groups and play each other team three times. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals. The winner of the competition advances to the Intercontinental Basketball Cup, which pits the BCLA champion against the champions of the NBA G League (USA), the Basketball Champions League (Europe), the Basketball Africa League and the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

Ossé and Louis join the Honey Badgers for their final two games of the competition as the CEBL champs are currently winless in four games. For its final two games, Brampton features an all-Canadian roster with 10 of its 11 players having played in the CEBL in 2022: Sean Miller-Moore (Guelph), Kemy Ossé and Alain Louis (Montréal), Daniel Walden-Mullings and Jaylen Babb-Harrison (Niagara), Chad Posthumus (Ottawa), Shane Osayande (Saskatchewan), Jahvon Blair (Newfoundland) as well as Alex Campbell and Murphy Burnatowski (Vancouver). The 11th player on the roster, Elijah Lufile, played for the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League earlier this season.

In 2022, Ossé averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game and scored 10 or more points eight times. Louis average 6.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

The Brampton Honey Badgers will host Real Estelí (Nicaragua) on Tuesday, February 7 at 8:00 PM and Libertadores (Mexico) on Thursday, February 9 at 8:00 PM with all games being played at Brampton’s CAA Center. All Honey Badgers games will be broadcast live on CEBL+ and NBA TV Canada.
