Montréal Alliance Sign Dominant Center Bassett
Florida and Weber State alum brings elite rim protection and double-double production to Montréal after standout performances in European leagues

The Montréal Alliance is proud to announce the signing of centre Dontay Bassett for the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. The 6’9”, 250-pound Oakland, California native joins the Alliance after establishing himself across European professional leagues, most recently with Hogsbo in Sweden’s Basketligan.
“Dontay’s combination of size and scoring ability addresses key needs for our roster,” said Joel Anthony, General Manager and co-owner of the Alliance. “His development as a professional has been impressive, consistently producing double-doubles and impact performances across multiple leagues.”
Bassett arrives in Montréal with a proven track record of defensive excellence and scoring efficiency. During the 2024-25 campaign with Hogsbo, he averaged 16.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 28.1 minutes across 18 games. His professional career began with BK Opava in the Czech Republic, where he posted similar numbers with 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The 26-year-old developed his game during a five-year collegiate career split between Florida University in the Southeastern Conference (2016-20) and Weber State University in the Big Sky Conference (2020-22). At Weber State, Bassett emerged as a consistent contributor, averaging 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game in his final season while shooting an efficient 54.9% from the field.
“This is a great opportunity to join a first-class organization,” said Bassett. “I’ve heard amazing things about the Alliance fans, and I’m ready to give them everything I’ve got every time I step on the court.”
The upcoming season will be the longest in CEBL history with each team playing 24 regular season games, including 12 home contests for the Alliance at the Verdun Auditorium and IGA Stadium. The Alliance will play its home opener on May 18 against the Brampton Honey Badgers.
In a groundbreaking event, the Alliance will host the first-ever outdoor 5x5 professional basketball game in Canadian history at IGA Stadium on May 23. The event, named “Éclipse : Match sous les étoiles”, offers fans a unique opportunity to experience professional basketball under the open sky. Tickets start at just $25 and are available at www.alliancemontreal.ca/en-ca/eclipse.
