Montréal Alliance Acquire Elite Point Guard Tavian Dunn-Martin
Veteran floor general brings European pedigree to Montréal as Alliance release Tavis Smith due to roster construction rules

The Montréal Alliance is proud to announce the addition of veteran point guard Tavian Dunn-Martin to its roster. The 5’8” floor general from Huntington, West Virginia, joins the Alliance following an outstanding 2024-25 campaign with Donar Groningen in Belgium’s premier BNXT League.
Dunn-Martin, 27, brings a wealth of high-level European experience to Montréal’s backcourt, having established himself as one of Europe’s most dynamic playmakers over the past three seasons. Most recently with Donar Groningen, he averaged an impressive 18.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists across 22 regular season games, before elevating his performance in the playoffs with averages of 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over five postseason contests.
The veteran guard’s European journey has taken him through some of basketball’s most competitive leagues, including France’s LNB Pro A, the prestigious ABA League featuring powerhouses like Partizan Belgrade, and Slovenia’s top division. His consistent production across multiple elite leagues demonstrates the adaptability and basketball IQ that make him a perfect fit for the CEBL’s fast-paced, entertaining style of play.
“Tavian represents exactly the type of championship-caliber player we’ve been targeting,” said Joel Anthony, General Manager and co-owner of the Alliance. “His experience competing at the highest levels in Europe, combined with his ability to control tempo and create for teammates, makes him an ideal addition to our roster for the 2025 season.”
Prior to his European success, Dunn-Martin enjoyed a stellar collegiate career spanning five seasons at Akron, Duquesne, and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). At FGCU, he capped his college career with a phenomenal senior season, averaging 21.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.0 assists while recording seven 30-point performances, including a remarkable 43-point explosion against Liberty.
His college résumé includes Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year honours in 2019, over 880 career points, and a reputation as one of the most clutch performers in college basketball. At Duquesne, he established himself as one of the program's premier three-point shooters, ranking eight all-time with 149 career makes from beyond the arc.
“Joining the Alliance represents an incredible opportunity to compete for a championship”, said Dunn-Martin. “I’ve been following the CEBL’s growth and the Alliance’s commitment to excellence, and I’m excited to bring my experience and leadership to help this talented group achieve our goals.”
To accommodate Dunn-Martin’s addition while adhering to CEBL roster construction rules, which limit teams to four import players on active rosters, the Alliance has released guard Tavis “Pistol” Smith. The organization thanks Smith for his professionalism and contributions during his time with the team.
“We appreciate everything Tavis brought to our organization during his time here,” added Anthony. “He has helped us take the steps in establishing our identity and culture early on in the season and we wish him the best in his young career.”
The Alliance currently sits second in the CEBL Eastern Conference standings following their dominant season-opening victory over the Brampton Honey Badgers. Dunn-Martin will be available for the team’s upcoming road contest as Montréal continues its pursuit of the franchise’s first CEBL championship.
