Americain point guard Michael Dixon Jr. signs with Alliance for 2023 season

The Montréal Alliance announced Saturday that it has signed American veteran Michael Dixon Jr. for the 2023 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). A six-foot-two guard, Dixon Jr. played nine professional seasons, averaging over 10 points per game each season. Last season, the American guard was named the 2022 Basketball Africa League Hakeem Olajuwon Most Valuable Player.

 

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Dixon Jr. played four collegiate seasons with the University of Missour (2009-12) and the University of Memphis (2013-14), where he was named Big 12 Conference 6th Man of the Year (2012), to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team (2012), and AAC Conference 6th Man of the Year (2014).

 

Over the course of his nine-season professional career, Dixon Jr. played for 13 different teams, including with Strasbourg in the French Premier Division, Bnei Herzeliya in the Israeli Premier Division, BC Titebi in the Georgian Premier Division and US Monastir in the Basketball Africa League.

 

In 2022, with US Monastir, Dixon Jr. helped his team win its first-ever championship against Petro de Luanda. Following the game, Dixon Jr. was named the season’s MVP after averaging 16.5 points and 4.1 assists per game, in addition to scoring 21 points in the championship game.

 

A Georgian citizen, Dixon Jr. played for the Georgian national team at the EuroBasket qualifying tournament in 2017, where he posted an averaged of 16.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

 

In 2022-23, the American guard played in the Greek top division with Kolossos H Hotels, averaging 12.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 25.3 minutes per game.

 

Dixon Jr. joins Kemy Ossé, Alain Louis, Elijah Ifejeh and Nathan Cayo, all of whom are returning for their second consecutive season, Canadians Mamadou Gueye, Quincy Louis-Jeune and Biniam Ghebrekidan, U Sports draft picks Aryan Sharma and Bahaïde Haïdara, 2022 CEBL Second Team All-Star Ahmed Hill, international player Ludgy Debaut and Americans Blake Francis and Treveon Graham as the 14th member of the roster for the 2023 season.
