ALAIN LOUIS AND MARC-ANDRÉ FORTIN SELECTED BY ALLIANCE DURING 2022 CEBL U SPORTS DRAFT

Apr 19, 2022

Montréal, QC – The Montréal Alliance announced Tuesday the selection of Alain Louis and Marc-André Fortin during the 2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) U SPORTS draft.

Drafted second overall, Louis played four seasons with Carleton University. During the 2021-2022 season, the six-foot-one point guard averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, scoring 15 or more points on seven occasions and dishing out seven or more assists on four occasions. Louis also led Carleton University to a third consecutive U SPORTS National Championship in addition to being named the tournament’s MVP.

During the 2020-2021 season, Louis played in the CEBL with the Ottawa BlackJacks as a U SPORTS developmental player. In 15 games with Ottawa, Louis averaged 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 55.9 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from the three-point line.

Born in Port-Au-Prince, Louis’ family moved to Montréal when he was five years old. Louis attended Thetford Academy before committing to Carleton University where he played four seasons. Drafted second overall, Louis is the first player selected by the Alliance in the 2022 CEBL U SPORTS draft.

Drafted in the second round and 19th overall, Fortin played five seasons with the Rouge et Or at the University of Laval. The six-foot-eight center had his best statistical season in 2021-2022, averaging 12.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, while shooting 51.1 percent from the field.

A native of Sainte-Marie, Fortin played at Cégep de Sainte-Foy, averaging 12.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Those results earned him a scholarship with Sam Houston State University, where he played his first collegiate season, appearing in 28 games as the team’s only freshman.

Fortin was selected to play on Team Canada at the 2019 Summer Universiade tournament, an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). In 5 games, he averaged 5 points, 4 rebounds and 10.4 minutes.

Drafted 19th overall, Fortin is the second player to be selected by the Montréal Alliance in the 2022 CEBL U SPORTS draft.

Louis and Fortin will join point guard Kemy Ossé, shooting guard Isiah Osborne as well as forwards Dominic Green and James Jean-Marie and are the first two players in franchise history to be selected in the U SPORTS draft. Louis, Fortin, and the Alliance will begin training camp May 16. Fans will have the opportunity to see the team play 10 times this summer at the new Verdun Auditorium.
