MONTRÉAL GUARD MAMBI DIAWARA SIGNS WITH MONTRÉAL ALLIANCE

Montréal, QC – The Montréal Alliance announced Thursday that Montréal guard Mambi Diawara has signed a contract with the expansion team for the remainder of the 2022 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). 


The six-foot-four guard played the 2021-2022 season with Al Hilla in the Iraqi Basketball League. Previously, Diawara played the 2020 and 2021 seasons in the CEBL with the Edmonton Stingers (2020) and the Saskatchewan Rattlers (2021). The Montréal native also won the 2020 CEBL championship while playing with the Stingers. 


In terms of statistics, Diawara averaged 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 19 minutes per game in two CEBL seasons. The Montréal native also shot 41 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line while playing with Edmonton. 


Outside of the CEBL, Diawara played in Finland with Helsinki (2020-2021), Argentina with Club Deportivo Hispano Americano (2019-2020) and Romania with BC PH Miercurea Ciuc (2019-2020). The Montréal guard also played five college seasons with Lamar State College Port Arthur (2014-2016) and the University of Calgary (2016-2019). Diawara averaged 22.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game with the Calgary Dinos in 2017-2018. In addition, Diawara was named Canada West Player of the Year and led his team to a 20-0 season before winning the U SPORTS National championship in 2018. 


Diawara joins point guards Kemy Ossé, Hernst Laroche, Alain Louis and Lawi Msambya, shooting guards Isiah Osborne and Sherwood Brown, forwards Dominic Green, Ashley Hamilton, James Jean-Marie, Nathan Cayo, Abdul Mohamed and Élie Karojo as well as centres Emondre Rickman and Marc-André Fortin. The Alliance currently hold a 4-11 record in 15 regular season games and will face the Newfoundland Growlers in their next home game on Friday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase single game tickets starting at $20 per game, visit
