Montréal Alliance Sign Canadian Forward Shittu
Alberta native brings defensive versatility and rim protection to Montréal following professional experiences across Europe and Asia

The Montréal Alliance is proud to announce the signing of forward Abdullah Shittu for the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. The 6’8”, 225-pound Edmonton native joins the Alliance after gaining valuable international experience with clubs in Slovakia, Mongolia, and Portugal.
Shittu, 25, comes to Montréal with a growing international résumé that began with BK Iskra Svit in Slovakia’s top league , where he averaged 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.0 steal in 30.4 minutes across 10 professional games. His defensive impact was evident throughout his time in Slovakia, recording multiple blocks in several contests, including a standout performance of 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks against Handlova.
The 2025 season marks a homecoming of sorts for Shittu, who developed his game during an accomplished collegiate career at the University of Alberta (2021-2023), where he averaged 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting an efficient 51.9% from the field across 49 games in the Canada West Conference. Prior to Alberta, he spent three seasons at MacEwan University (2017-2020).
In his final collegiate season (2022-23), Shittu emerged as a constant force, averaging career-highs of 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game.
“Joining the Alliance is an incredible opportunity to continue my professional development while playing closer to home,” said Shittu. “Coming from Alberta, I’ve watched the CEBL grow into a premier destination for Canadian talent, and I’m excited to be part of what Coach Small and the organization are building in Montréal.”
The upcoming season will be the longest in CEBL history with each team playing 24 regular season games, including 12 home contests for the Alliance at the Verdun Auditorium and IGA Stadium. The Alliance will play its home opener on May 18 against the Brampton Honey Badgers.
In a groundbreaking event, the Alliance will host the first-ever outdoor 5x5 professional basketball game in Canadian history at IGA Stadium on May 23. The event, named "Éclipse : Match sous les étoiles", offers fans a unique opportunity to experience professional basketball under the open sky. Tickets start at just $25 and are available at
