Apr 06, 2022

Montréal, QC – The Montréal Alliance announced Wednesday that Rose-Anne Joly, interim head coach of the University of Ottawa women’s basketball team has been named assistant coach of the Alliance, in charge of player development and data analysis.

“I would like to thank the Montréal Alliance for this opportunity,” said Joly. “I am proud to represent the French language and Québec’s culture within the coaching staff. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and my work ethic, but most of all I’m excited to learn more by being surrounded by professionals who have a background like no other. Let the story begin!”

Joly was named interim head coach of the uOttawa Gee-Gees in June 2021 after four seasons on the team’s coaching staff. Joly served as a volunteer assistant during the 2016-2017 season before being named a full-time assistant from 2017 to 2020.

From 2020 to 2021, Joly spent seven months at the NBA Basketball School in Dubai as a coach and operations coordinator. Joly contributed to the growth of the sport in the Middle East and worked with young athletes looking to improve their skills.

A native of Gatineau, Joly began her coaching career at Polyvalente Nicolas-Gatineau from 2006 to 2009 before moving up to the collegiate level with Collège Nouvelles Frontières from 2010 to 2016. Joly also has experience coaching at the provincial level as an assistant with Québec’s U15 team with whom she won the national championship in 2016 and with the U17 team with whom she won the gold medal at the Canada Games in 2017. As a head coach at the provincial level, Joly led Québec’s U14 team in 2017 and Ontario’s U14 development program in 2019.

As a player, Joly played at the collegiate level with Collège Nouvelles Frontières where she was named Rookie of the Year in her first season and MVP in her second. Joly went on to play for the uOttawa Gee-Gees in 2009-2010, but a knee injury ended her competitive career.

Joly is the president and founder of Basket Plus, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for varsity sports teams to get involved in the community whether locally, nationally or internationally. Basket Plus has helped build a basketball court in Togo in 2018 and a sports complex in Haiti in 2019.

Joly joins the Alliance coaching staff for the 2022 CEBL season which begins May 25 in Hamilton. Visit https://www.alliancemontreal.ca/en-ca/season-memberships-2022 to get your season membership starting at $22.50 per game and for more information.
