Feb 20, 2023

MONTRÉAL, QC – The Montréal Alliance announced Monday that Charles Dubé-Brais has been named assistant general manager in charge of team strategy and development as well as assistant coach for the 2023 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. Dubé-Brais was head coach of the Ottawa BlackJacks during the 2021 season and first three games of the 2022 season. He also served as an assistant coach with the CEBL’s representative in the 2022 Basketball Champions League Americas, the Edmonton Stingers.

“Surrounding myself with people who know the local market and culture as well as the league was paramount to me,” said Alston Sr., head coach of the Alliance. “Having Charles as my assistant was a no-brainer and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish together.”

Dubé-Brais currently serves as head coach of the Macau Black Bears in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), where he will retain his duties before joining the Alliance in time for the 2023 season. The Québec native served as an assistant coach for the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League from 2018-2020. The newest member of the Alliance was also a guest coach at the NBA Summer League with the San Antonio Spurs from 2015-2017 and won the NBA Las Vegas Summer League title in 2015.

“I am very excited to contribute to the development of basketball in Québec by joining the Alliance for the 2023 season,” said Dubé-Brais. “The team has been very successful in the Québec sports landscape this past season, and I look forward to contributing with my experience and knowledge.”

Prior to joining the Raptors 905, Dubé-Brais was the head coach of the Chongson Kung Fu Club in China and was named the ABL Coach of the Year in 2018. Dubé-Brais also spent eight seasons in the organization of prestigious French club Nanterre 92 and was a finalist for Coach of the Year in 2015.

Dubé-Brais joins Derrick Alston Sr., who was recently named Alliance head coach, as the first member of his coaching staff for the 2023 season.
