Calgary Pulls Away Late to Defeat Alliance 99-82

August 5, 2025

Final Score: Calgary 99, Montréal 82

The Montréal Alliance (8-13) fell 99-82 to the Calgary Surge (15-7) Monday night at Verdun Auditorium, though the final score didn't reflect how competitive the game was for most of the evening. Calgary used a dominant fourth quarter to turn a close contest into a convincing victory on Fan Appreciation Night.

The Alliance entered the final period trailing just 70-68, having battled back from an early deficit to keep pace with one of the CEBL's top teams. However, Calgary's depth and experience showed in the final 10 minutes as they outscored Montréal 29-14 to pull away for the decisive victory.

Jameer Nelson Jr. led the Surge onslaught with 23 points and 4 rebounds, while Khyri Thomas added 21 points and 7 rebounds in an efficient performance. Sean Miller-Moore contributed 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a well-rounded display that showcased Calgary's balanced attack.

Gabe Osabuohien dominated the paint with 15 points and 10 rebounds, giving the Surge the interior presence that proved crucial in pulling away from the Alliance down the stretch.

Tavian Dunn-Martin led the Alliance with 20 points and 5 assists in another strong individual performance, while Quincy Guerrier posted 18 points and 9 rebounds to pace the frontcourt. The duo kept Montréal competitive throughout three quarters but couldn't match Calgary's fourth-quarter surge.

Shamiel Stevenson provided a spark off the bench with 13 points in his return to action, showing the depth that could prove valuable as the Alliance prepare for their playoff run. Kevin Osawe added 14 points and 7 rebounds while continuing his recent strong play.

The game remained tight through the first three quarters, with neither team able to establish sustained separation. The Alliance showed they could compete with elite Western Conference opposition when executing their system, but turnovers and defensive breakdowns in crucial moments allowed Calgary to seize control.

Calgary's superior depth became evident as the game wore on, with contributions from multiple players helping them maintain energy while the Alliance rotation showed signs of fatigue in the decisive fourth quarter.

While the loss was disappointing, the Alliance demonstrated they can play quality basketball against championship-caliber teams when healthy and focused. The chemistry between their core players continues to develop, and performances like Stevenson's return provide optimism about their playoff potential.

With their postseason spot already secured, games like these serve as valuable preparation for the intensity and quality opposition they'll face in the playoffs. The Alliance will look to bounce back as they continue building toward their playoff run.

Next up: The Alliance host Ottawa Wednesday night at 7:30 PM for their final regular season home game before the playoffs begin.
