Alliance Returns to Verdun for First-Ever Matchup with Saskatoon Mamba
The Montreal Alliance opened its 2026 season with a hard-fought 91-87 loss to the Scarborough Shooting Stars Friday night at the Verdun Auditorium.
The game remained close throughout the evening, with both teams trading momentum across all four quarters before Scarborough secured the win with the final basket in Target Score Time.
Javon Freeman-Liberty led Montreal with an impressive all-around performance, finishing with 31 points, six rebounds, and four assists in his CEBL debut. Michael Hughes II also delivered a strong outing with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists, helping Montreal control the glass throughout the night.
Guillaume Boucard provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals as Montreal’s reserves combined for 25 points.
Montreal stayed within striking distance all game thanks to its balanced offensive attack and strong interior presence, finishing with 46 points in the paint.
Myles Powell paced Scarborough with 28 points, while Jalen Johnson added 21 for the Shooting Stars, who improved to 1-0 to open the season.
Despite the result, the Alliance showed plenty of encouraging signs in front of an energetic crowd at Verdun Auditorium in its first game of the 2026 campaign.
Montreal returns to action Tuesday, May 19, at 7:30 PM against the Saskatoon Mamba at Verdun Auditorium.
