Alliance One Basket Away From Knocking Off East Leaders

The Montreal Alliance came within one basket of knocking off the Eastern Conference-leading Scarborough Shooting Stars on Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 91-87 in a tightly contested battle at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. After leading for much of the afternoon, Montreal held Scarborough to just 65 points through three quarters before remaining within striking distance until the final moments of Target Score Time.

The Alliance controlled the glass throughout the contest, outrebounding Scarborough 62-46, including a commanding 23-14 advantage on the offensive boards. Montreal also generated 20 second-chance points and recorded 22 assists in another strong road performance.

Quincy Guerrier led the way with a dominant 32-point, 12-rebound double-double while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and grabbing five offensive rebounds. Jack Hemphill posted 20 points and 11 rebounds for his own double-double, connecting on eight of his 13 field-goal attempts, including four of six from beyond the arc.

Blondeau Tchoukuiegno contributed across the board with nine points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two blocks, while Lue Williams III added 11 points to cap another balanced team effort for the Alliance.

Scarborough was led by Myles Powell's 20 points, while Javan Johnson added 18 as the Shooting Stars improved to 18-4 on the season.

The Alliance will now return home for Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday, July 28, when the Vancouver Bandits visit the Verdun Auditorium for the final home game of the regular season.
