The Montréal Alliance wrap up their regular season Sunday afternoon at Toronto Pan Am Centre against the Scarborough Shooting Stars in what serves as a final tune-up before both teams meet again in the Eastern Conference Play-In game.

With playoff positioning now locked following Friday’s results, Sunday’s contest carries no standings implications but offers both clubs a valuable opportunity to build momentum heading into their August 14 elimination game at the same venue.

Friday’s 98-92 loss to Ottawa, combined with Scarborough’s 102-95 defeat to Vancouver, officially locked in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Ottawa’s victory secured second place and home court advantage for the Eastern Conference Semifinal in Gatineau, while the Alliance and Shooting Stars will meet in the Play-In game with the winner advancing to face Ottawa.

The unique circumstance of these teams playing twice in four days - once to close the regular season and again with playoff elimination on the line - adds an intriguing dynamic to Sunday’s meaningless-but-meaningful contest.

Despite the disappointing result in Ottawa, the Alliance showed flashes of the identity that carried them through some parts of the season. Brandon Porter delivered his best performance of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Tavian Dunn-Martin added 22 points.

The Shooting Stars’ loss to Vancouver exposed some concerning trends heading into playoff basketball. Despite strong individual performances from Donovan Williams and Michael Foster Jr. (20 points each), Scarborough couldn’t find the defensive consistency needed against a motivated Bandits squad.

Sunday’s match becomes a chess match where both coaches can experiment with rotations and strategies without risking playoff positioning. However, the psychological aspect of momentum heading into their elimination rematch cannot be understated.

While Sunday's result won't change playoff seeding, it offers both teams a preview of what to expect in their winner-take-all meeting four days later. The Alliance have shown they can compete with anyone when executing their system, while Scarborough possesses the talent to make a deep playoff run if they can find consistency.

For fans, Sunday represents a rare opportunity to see playoff opponents square off in a low-pressure environment before the stakes get raised to elimination level.
